In days of old, when armies fought in melee combat, the victory came down to the line. The question was whether the aggressor could break the defender’s line, divide him up, and cut each piece down. For this reason, Sun Tzu’s Art of War says,

To advance irresistibly, push through their gaps.

In the last two months, we have encouraged you to build and to fight. To push through the gaps of the enemy. But this is for certain battles, not the entire war.

To win the war, we must defend. Otherwise, we will be like the Greek myth of Sisyphus, cursed to continuously push a boulder up a hill but slip before we get to the top.

In every part of life, if you want to win, you must Hold the Line. 

On a societal or political level, much freedom has been lost because of the failure to Hold the Line. “Compromise”–which really just means giving up what is right–has taken us from private warships being legal to good rifles being banned. We must push back. And then Hold the Line.

On an individual level, every man must battle discouragement and discouragers. It is easy to start things and difficult to finish them. For that reason, we must Hold the Line. Have the fortitude to follow through. The Apostle Paul says,

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:13)

You have enemies in this life. Are you ready to resist them? Will you Hold the Line in the face of discouragement, temptation, and weakness?

Physical body armor is not sufficient to make you powerful; you must be trained, in mind and in body, to do your duty. You must learn. You must work hard. But once you have trained, your Tools become a force multiplier. Firearms and armor should be part of your ready kit.

Christ told his disciples,

[H]e who has no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one. (Luke 22:36)
