Description
A hundred years after statehood, these Western lands still carry that freewheeling soul within.
Danger. And we always preferred dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.
But not evil. Not this evil.
Your family has found relative peace on the border, near Soledad. The kids learn at home and learn to work. You get good time with them, the long desert desolation painting the background of their memories.
In the last four years, though, there’s been a change in these old landscapes. Trucks and vans occasionally barrel north, carrying who-knows-what and who-knows-who. Immigration itself is no evil, but our neighbor across the border clearly isn’t sending her best.
Recently, a friend of yours got attacked while he worked security for a farm out here. The cartel had him on his knees. Decisive action and good Providence were the only things on his side that day. Though he did remark on his armor vest being important. He had a simple black one with a couple mag pouches, but it did the job. One little bullet mark right in front of his heart. Said he didn’t even notice in the moment.
Your kit is similar, but it’s a little more featured. A belt carries your sidearm and it’ll hold eight mags for a rifle. Hopefully you don’t need it. But you have it.
Today, though, you might need it. The little town you reside in, normally so quiet, recently housed some drug deals, and now it’s a battleground for a deal gone wrong.
You watch the horizon for anyone headed your way.
—
The story above follows a use case we’ve seen many times. The friend’s cartel encounter, for instance, is actually based in reality.
One AR customer, Bob L, says:
“I was head of security on legal cannabis farm up in Humboldt county. I worked nights and one night coming up to one of our dry houses, I got ambushed by 3 guys. Only 2 had firearms, the third had a machete. They had me dead to rights, disarmed me and put me on my knees, I honestly thought that this was it. They were all Hispanic and I’ve heard from other farms that cartel elements have been attempting to dig in for a while. I kinda just said f’ it. I get shot on my knees, shot in the back (had a play there as well) or get my head cut off, so I went full on murder mode and tackled 2 of ’em, got my Glock back and opened fire, they took off in a Ford Ranger. They hit me, plate took the hit and I know I hit someone cause next morning we found blood trails, broken glass.
Yeah, it was rough. Dreamt about that night for a long time.
Your plate is the reason I’m here.
Thank you.“
