When armor coverage is your primary concern, the all-inclusive Testudo Gen 2.0 plate carrier has you covered.

Named after the Roman army’s defensive formation, the Testudo from Armored Republic comes ready to provide you with maximum coverage. This plate carrier is able to accommodate 10”x12” or 11”x14” body armor of any type. Its fully adjustable cummerbund and shoulder straps make the Testudo versatile enough for large or medium body types. It also has plenty of PALS webbing for attaching your MOLLE-compatible pouches, holsters, and accessories. The generous supply of Velcro -- covering all the PALS webbing -- offers superior versatility for placement of medical, moto, or other patches or gear.

The removable cummerbund sports integrated side-armor pockets, and the low-offset shoulder straps mean the rear plate pocket rides at the proper height. If you run plates smaller than 10”x12”, add our Adaptive Plate Insert and you’ve got everything you need to run a lightweight run-and-gun setup, all the way to fully kitted for maximum protection and load-bearing capability. Just add armor and pouches (sold separately).

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • What's the point of a plate carrier? A plate carrier's primary use is to carry body armor. The plates inserted into the plate carrier are what ultimately determine the protection you will get. Externally, plate carriers use MOLLE webbing to mount pouches, IFAKs, and other necessary equipment for your mission.
    • Are plate carriers illegal? No. Given a plate carrier provides no ballistic protection without its armor inserts, plate carriers are legal in all 50 states. Getting armor for them is a different story.
    • What's the difference between a chest rig and a plate carrier? A plate carrier is just that, a method to carry armor plates. A chest rig is a placard or preconfigured group of pouches that are only meant to address the external functions of a plate carrier. That is, they hold your gear but do not hold armor plates.
    • Will a plate carrier stop a bullet? No. As noted above, a  plate carrier needs body armor plates to protect you from a bullet. What kind of bullet is contingent on the protection level rating of the body armor.
    • Do plate carriers stop spalling or fragmentation? Possibly. Logically speaking, the fragmentation and/or spalling that can be stopped by your carrier is lower velocity. High-velocity fragmentation can still penetrate outward of the plate carrier. This is why fragmentation mitigation is important for the armor used in the plate carrier.
