Legacy Polyethylene Armor
Rifle-rated protection at its lightest: At only 3.3 lbs- less than half the weight of many ceramic and steel plates- this plate was our first run at ultra-lightweight Level III Polyethylene. Mobility and endurance have never been greater than with this material- all while swallowing M80 rounds whole. These plates are also neutral buoyant, which accommodates jobs near the water especially well, and makes PE popular in the Navy.
The Armored Republic released its first generation of Polyethylene Body Armor in 2018. In 2021 we improved the design slightly by changing from a single-curve fiber-wrapped plate to a multi-curve fraglock sprayed plate. These plates were the last generation of single curve PE plates that were manufactured in 2021. They are made of Ultra-High-Molecular-Weight PolyEthylene (UHMWPE), an ultra dense polymer that is able to stop and capture most bullets made of lead and copper. Tested independently to NIJ Level III standards, this plate provides protection capable of stopping 7.62x51 (.308) M80 Ball at 2780 FPS. In addition to its level III rating, it has also been tested to stop special threats such as 5.56x45 M193 at 3250 FPS, and 7.62x39 AK-47 at 2380 FPS and all lesser threats. Due to the way all polymer armor functions, it is incapable of stopping rounds such as 5.56x45 M855.
Note: This armor was manufactured in March of 2021 but these plates still come with a 5 year warranty from the Date of Issue, when they leave the controlled environment in our manufacturing facility
