Countering Unjust Laws

What happens when city, county, or state officials run into a law they believe is unjust? Are they required to follow it, no matter how onerous or offensive? What are the consequences if they refuse?

While modern Americans believe the federal government determines the supreme law of the land, it is the responsibility of those authorities and officials closest to individual citizens to use their positions to resist the unjust laws issued from above.

This is the idea behind the Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrate, and is a topic we’ll be looking at over the next several weeks.
