AR500 Armor® Level III Side Body Armor

Specifically designed to increase coverage on the peripherals of your plate carrier. AR500 Armor® Level III Side Armor Plates offer rifle rated protection on the side of your plate carrier. Compatible with most plate carriers that include cummerbund mounted side plate pouches. Available in two common sizes, 6” x 6”, and 6” x 8”, with both flat and curved form (improved comfort and ergonomics). Capable of defeating 7.62x51 M80 NATO Ball (.308 Winchester) at a velocity of up to 2,780 feet per second. Side plates are most applicable when increased armor coverage is desired from an entry or defensive standpoint. Non-squared off shooting positions, traveling in vehicles, and situations where fragmentation are a realistic threat are scenarios which heavily validate running side body armor.

Went with curved plate. Fit great and comfortable (as can be). (Posted on 8/13/2016)
Review from Benjamin Nelson Review by Benjamin Nelson
Great fit in my Uncle Mikes carrier w/ Cummerbund. I didn't want the 6x8 as I am not a big guy and it would force the vest to be wider than I'd like. What I did was get the plate in position while laid out on a flat surface and used some velcro strips to create a pocket in the cummerbund. Shipping was a little long (11 of the advertised 12 weeks) but would definitely order again for future set ups. (Posted on 8/4/2016)

Good stuff. I have many military friends and they tell me this is top quality. I just hope I never need it. (Posted on 8/3/2016)

Grate product .... I ordered during the Black Friday sales shipping was ok can't complain. I would recommend these plates to anyone that is looking to complete there rig. I have seen the videos of everything these plates can take so I would trust them with my life if I had to. Grate job AR500 keep up the good work. (Posted on 12/29/2015)

I bought these plates and was pleasantly surprised that they covered enough area on my sides. I'm rather tall, and the 6x6 sides and 10x12 plates fit me perfectly. (Posted on 11/16/2015)

I bought the side plates as a "what if armor gets banned". And glad I did. Didn't add to much to the vest weight and covered more than I had thought. I'm very pleased with my order. (Posted on 9/4/2015)

I have dyneema plates in the front and back. I considered them for the side plates. They are light but they are very thick. The steel side plates are much thinner and do not restrict access to items on my belt. I got 6 x 6 to maintain more lateral flexibility (curved is a must to wrap around the body). Although advertised as 2 lbs each, mine were 2 lbs 11 oz each. Not a big deal just heavier than advertised. (Posted on 3/11/2015)

I waited a few weeks extra than the estimated time to get my plates and when I finally got them I was falsely shipped 6X8 plates, But AR500 excepted full responsibility and traded me for the correct plates. the plates truly were 6X6 and didn't fit in my Valley Op speed 360, so I had to take 3/4 of an inch off which this stuff is pretty hard to cut even with my plasma cutter which I use to cut 1/2 steel with. but all in all worth the money, time , and frustration. great product. I ordered the 6x6, and the 6x8 curved side plates. These plates arrived fit perfectly in two separate rigs that I have. You can tell the amount of care ar500armor puts into their products. I ordered curved front and rear plates prior to this and those satisfied me as well. I highly recommend this product and company for both quality and affordability. (Posted on 11/13/2014)

Ordered the curved 6x6 side plates and like them a lot, wish I had gone curved plates when I bought my vest. (Posted on 10/5/2014)

Large enough to make a difference, but small enough to keep the weight down. (Posted on 9/9/2014)

Great product. Fit nice and snug into my Condor EXO side flaps. In hindsight I should have gotten the 6x8's, but these will certainly work for now. Excellent quality, weight is manageable, and I trust the company. (Posted on 8/13/2014)

Perfect fit in the Operator II Plate Carrier! (Posted on 8/6/2014)
Review from AMN Review by AMN
Great fit and ergonomics. The 6x8 might have fit my sides better, but I think the issue is with my carrier and not the plates themselves (please read my review on the Condor MOPC II Tan). These are a great buy just like their 10X12 curved counter parts and highly recommended. Shipping and delivery was prompt, which should put a smile on anyone's face who needs this stuff soon! Review from Josh Review by Josh
I got these side plates to finish out my armor package. I previously ordered 2 Operator II carriers with the ergo curved from and back plates with the standard thickness coating. I just bought these side plates on the black friday sale. They came in with the same awesome quality as everything else. The shipping time was resonable.

I also like that some ballistic testing info was sent along with these plates. All of the videos I have seen make the armor seem like an incredible deal for what they hold up to at the price point.

I have recommended this line of armor to several people. I also ordered a couple of trauma kits from here and they are of equal quality and affordability. Just make sure you throw in a couple of extra pairs of gloves if you get a med kit. They only come with one pair.

Other than that, I think this is truly the most economical way to get yourself/family some quality armor. (Posted on 12/17/2013)

I bought these based on a suggestion from a friend. After watching the testing videos and liking the price point I ordered them. They fit the side pockets as advertised and shipping was quick. I will definitely recommend this company and their products. (Posted on 12/1/2013)
Review from FlamingLobster Review by FlamingLobster
Solid, well-made little plates. The only hiccup in my experience with AR500 was that I was sent 6x8 plates by mistake. They answered my email within a day, sent a return shipping label via email, and I had the correct plates within about four days. Mistakes happen. Their customer service is exemplary. AR500 all the way! (Posted on 9/30/2013)
Review from Laymen's Tactical Review by Laymen's Tactical
I run this plate as a trauma plate on my concealable point blank vest. It fits snugly into the carrier and is light weight enought to not really be noticed. Having multi-strike rifle protection in a plate size that doesn't weigh you down is a great option. I highly recommend this plate to law enforcement and civilians who are looking for some extra protection on the body armor they already wear. (Posted on 8/3/2013)

Same quality as the body armor plates and exactly what I was looking for. I like the option of having side armor to go with the main plates if needed. (Posted on 6/8/2012)

Review from Justin Review by Justin
I actually picked this pair up on ebay before I knew about their website. They aren't as heavy as I thought they would be. If you are looking for steel ar500 body armor then these side plates will suite you well. I'm happy with how they arrived. The finish was good, and the edges were clean. I have no worries that these will do damage to my rig even with some use. (Posted on 5/24/2012)
