Fit's my backpack perfectly Review by Paul Verified Purchase

I have been wearing body armor daily in Afghanistan from 2006 to 2019 and I even brought my old set home; however, now that I am home I can't run around town wearing it (but I do keep it handy next to my SR-556). Additionally, it's too dang heavy; therefore, my son told me about the AR500 11x15 Lightweight Backpack Plate and I ordered it with the PAXCON Coating. I received it earlier than expected and I placed a Spall Blocker on the Strike Face and a Trauma Pad on the back of the plate (I know that I don't need the spall blocker because of the paxcon coating but what the heck). The plate with inserts fits into my Glock AS02000 Backpack perfectly but it is heavier than expected but I am also carrying a compact 45 ACP, extra mags, knife, flashlight, and other essential items (I still need to order the small first aide kit) which adds to the total weight. But now I feel that I the ability to protect myself when running around town because sometimes it's more dangerous here than in Afghanistan. Great product and worth the price. Thanks Tyler and the AR500 Armor® Team. (Posted on 5/3/2020)
Built like Tank Review by Average Joe Verified Purchase

I can not speak highly enough about this plate. Incredible build quality and protection. I got it to carry around with me in my backpack for peace of mind.

Before you purchase, just be aware of the weight and the dimensions. Most backpack laptop pockets are 10 in wide so this will have to go in the main compartment of most backpacks. Not a deal breaker for me, but something to note.

Secondly, be aware of the weight. This thing is built like a tank which means it feels like one too. This is gonna get heavy in a backpack if you're walking around with it all day. I like to think that it's an added workout, but just keep that in mind. I got a soft armor panel as well for a lighter load during all day excursions. (Posted on 4/20/2020)
Good but Heavy! Review by Blake Verified Purchase

This panel on back order, with build-up coat during 7 year sale, was supposed to barely make it on time for the start of college. It arrived weeks early and I have been extremely impressed! I keep it in plastic slip cover to avoid Paxcon cutting up my backpack though. I recommend this for high schoolers and college students but way to heavy for children at 11lbs! Great product! Probably too heavy for a typical kid, but the weight is fine for a typical adult or athletic teen... Review by Matthew Verified Purchase

I don't really have any meaningful experience with body armor or getting shot to death, so consider that in light of this positive review - I'm just a random guy with kids, not some combat vet or whatever...

I bought this plate (and the smaller backpack plates) for my kids and I for our backpacks. I opted for the build-up coat. This plate feels quite heavy, but also quite sturdy. I had to move some of my laptop stuff around in my backpack (https://www.swissgear.com/backpacks/swissgear-6968-scansmart-tsa-laptop-backpack-black) to accommodate this plate, but it wasn't too big of an inconvenience. As far as added weight goes, this plate feels like it weighs about as much as a 1-inch schoolbook. I plan on keeping it in my backpack forever.

The product itself arrived timely, seems to be of good quality, is clean, and clearly depicts the date of manufacture, what it is rated for, and some other details. It seems very sturdy and had no obvious flaws. The packaging material was sufficient to protect the product. (Posted on 5/13/2019)
Great protection and peace of mind - Review by BCobb

As a student, I began looking for armor inserts that would fit in my current backpack. After seeing the recent shootings in schools across the nation, and noticing the total absence of security and safety at my own, I started looking around for affordable inserts. At first I considered getting Level III soft armor, but I decided to opt for something that would stop rifle rounds, such as those from an AR-15. I added on the extra Paxcon coating as well.

I got the armor not only for my school bag, but I can also transfer it to my 24-Hour readiness bag. The armor fits in the laptop sleeve of my L.L. Bean Turbo Transit Pack, a solidly built backpack, and it also fits in my SOG Ninja bag, a cheap thing I bought at a local sporting goods store.

My only complaint about the armor is it's weight, which is to be expected from a steel core plate. I knew it would be heavy, but not quite this heavy! It's not so bad, though, if you tighten your pack straps to have the bag ride closer to your body and not sag down.

I would reccomend this to someone looking for a rifle rated armor plate that is fairly affordable. But be sure to have a quality bag with back padding for sure!
